About me

I am both a violinist and violin teacher based in the Royal Borough of Greenwich in South East London. I perform with many orchestras, I am the Director of the Mancini String Quartet and teach from my home in Se7. I also hold the positions of violin teacher and chamber music coach at Junior Trinity Laban, The King's School Canterbury, Dame Alice Owen's School and Townley Grammar School. I am a Violin Mentor on the Music Masters Pathways Programme where I work with some of their talented students with the aim of making music making a more inclusive and diverse profession.

I began studying both the violin and piano at the age of 6. I enjoyed playing and performing on both instruments. I gained my Grade 8 with Distinction on Piano and carried on my studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama but I always felt a stronger pull towards the violin. The skills leant on the piano during my youth enables me to accompany my students which greatly helps them to see the overall picture of the music rather than just the violin part.

I grew up in Southampton and gained a Music Scholarship to study at King Edward Vi School, Southampton. I joined the Southampton Youth Orchestras programme which I was part of from 7-18 years of age. At the age of 16 I was appointed joint Concert Master of the Southampton Youth Orchestra leading them on three European Tours.

I won a place to continue my studies Undergraduate (BMus) and Masters (MMus) courses at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where I had the great privilege to study with Simon Fischer, Jaqueline Ross and Yfrah Neaman. While at Guildhall my ensembles won 1st prizes in the Ivan Sutton Chamber music prize and the Guitar based chamber ensemble prize. I then continued my post-graduate studies in performance at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with the great Latvian soloist Ilya Grubert (winner of the Tchaikowsky and Paganini International Competitions).

I am deeply passionate and committed to teaching the violin and during the past 20 years I have worked with hundreds of violinist of all levels through my school and teachinglondonviolin.co.uk studio work. I take great pride in the development and achievements of all of my students no matter of their commitment level. I aim for each and every student to reach their full potential. It is a privilege to witness my students become confident young adults through the idiom of the music.

My orchestral career has lead me to Guest Lead the second violins of Opera North as well as playing with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, BBC Concert Orchestra and English National Ballet. I have played in engagements with many of the worlds most famous and talented musicians and performers across all genres.: Nigel Kennedy, Stephanie Benadetti, Kylie Minogue, Katherine Jenkins, Jose Carreras, Robbie Williams, Sir Simon Rattle, Midori, Take That, Bueno Vista Social Club, Bill Bailey and Tasmin Little. I have performed at the BBC Proms and on Television and Radio on numerous occasions.

The beautiful scroll of my violin

I play on a 2007 Christoph Gotting violin. This violin was made for me and it feels rather special that I am it's first of many owners I am sure. My violin is on the right hand side with another later Gotting violin on the left.
